WINNERS: 3rd Annual Indie Soap Awards

We Love Soaps in Association with The SFN presented The 3rd Annual Indie Soap Awards on Tuesday, February 21 in a ceremony held in New York City. The Indie Soap Awards, or ISAs, strive to honor the very best in scripted, serialized programming for the web. This year, the nominees in several categories were divided into comedy and drama.

RAGGED ISLE, named Best Web Series (Drama) and PRETTY, named Best Web Series (Comedy), each took home three awards. This year's Indie Soap Award statue was custom designed by artist Armando Ramirez.

The indie web series world packed a theater at New World Stages and the show featured a special original song performance by Colleen Zenk, amazing clip packages of the nominated shows and a bubble-filled surprise ending. Most importantly it celebrated the people who are leading the evolution of a medium.

For those who were not able to attend, The SFN is exclusively broacasting the ceremony on March 18. There were laughs, there were tears, and so much more. This is a show not to be missed. There is a magical spirit in the air for the Indie Soap Awards and our partners at The SFN have captured that for the world to see.

Below you will find a complete list of the winners.

The Indie Soap Award 2012

We Love Soaps - in association with The SFN - presents the 3rd Annual Indie Soap Awards on February 21 (tonight!). Winners will be presented with an original work of art handcrafted for We Love Soaps by the artist, Armando Ramirez. His all-metal sculptures are soldered together from recycled, salvaged auto parts, and each one is unique.

"At first, little by little, I began to craft figures from scraps and discarded mechanical parts–-mostly from cars and bicycles," describes Ramirez. "And so I began to create sculptures, soldering the pieces together and giving them shape as I imagined they should look.

"The process involves selecting recycled items that can be used. I separate them and soak them in a cleaning solution to remove any impurities. I solder them together until I achieve my design, then I give it a protective coat of glossy varnish."

3rd Annual Indie Soap Awards Directory

As the excitement has building toward the 3rd Annual Indie Soap Awards ceremony, fans have been asking where they can find the nominated shows.  Below is a list of this year's nominations along with a guide for the nominated web series--cast, crew, descriptions, etc.  For anyone who has not checked out any of the indie soaps before, now is the perfect time to start.  Registrations for the live event close at Noon on Tuesday but if you can't make it in person, the telecast will air exclusively on The SFN on March 18. Either way, we encourage everyone to support the creators who are reinventing a genre for the World Wide Web.

National Gay Lesbian Chamber Of Commerce Partners With Indie Soap Awards

As organizers of The 3rd Annual Indie Soap Awards, We Love Soaps TV is honored to announce our Community Partnership with The National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, New York Chapter (NGLCCNY).  NGLCCNY is committed to forming a broad-based coalition representative of the various interests of LGBT owned and friendly businesses, professionals, and students of business for the purpose of promoting economic growth and prosperity of its members.

We spoke with Richard Oceguera, President of the respected organization, about the cultural impact of the Indie Soap Awards in the New York LGBT community.  "NGLCCNY is proud to support the talented artists who are creating this exciting new wave of video content," he said. "That many of the nominees are LGBT is a testament to the massive creative and business genius that our community has to offer!"

While daytime television has wavered in its commitment to accurately and respectfully representing the lives of gay/lesbian individuals, Indie Soaps have always portrayed members of this community with complexity, depth, and resilience.  This year's nominees such as ANACOSTIA, ANYONE BUT ME, EMPIRE, GREGORY WAY TV, HUSBANDS, HUSTLING, OUT WITH DAD, PRETTY, and VENICE, all prominently feature LGBT characters with real strengths and flaws.  They are part of the very fabric of their shows, not trounced out for a "special episode."

Such diverse and rich portrayals help to transform lives, empower viewers, and validate a sense of universal experience.  Similarly, NGLCCNY offers opportunities for New Yorkers who wish to succeed in business, improve connections, and empower their personal and professional communities.  We are grateful to Mr. Oceguera for recognizing this commitment in the Indie Soap Awards, and look forward to seeing all of you there!

Colleen Zenk Joins Daytime And Broadway Presenters At Indie Soap Awards February 21st

We Love Soaps TV is thrilled to confirm that Emmy Nominated Colleen Zenk will be joining us for the Third Annual Indie Soap Awards as an attendee and presenter.  Zenk brings with her a history of 32 years as Barbara Ryan on AS THE WORLD TURNS, as well as host of stage and screen credits.  Her creative renaissance in New York theater following the cancellation of ATWT represents the resilience, creativity, and empowerment celebrated in all the nominees at this year's rewards.

Zenk's new role in "Marrying George Clooney" continues to demonstrate her accomplished and consummate ability to balance humor with pathos.  Set in cyberspace, it’s about love, life, moms, dads, siblings, marriage, friendships, Ambien, confessions, googling old boyfriends at 3 a.m., fantasies and awakenings. It's about falling in love with yourself, and it's about a realization that women no longer have to punctuate any single part of their lives with a period.  Please join We Love Soaps TV in celebrating Colleen Zenk ("Clooney") from February 29th - March 24th, at Cap21 Theater, at 18 West 18th Street, 5th Floor, NY, NY.   Watch Zenk's video previewing the show here.
